Hello.Am a Linux novice. Performed an on-line update from 14.04 to 16.04 on my laptop which is an Asus Ultrabook. It has an 1T SSD and is dual-boot with Windows 8.1 via grub. Have done the same upgrade on my Intel i7 desktop without issue. It however DOES NOT have an SSD.During boot, there are errors reported that I caot decipher and, I believe, has to do with Ubuntu recognizing my SSD (sd9?). It is a Corsair SSD. During boot it performs some sort of disk diag that runs for 1m 50s? Sometimes it won't boot at all and I have to do the three-finger-salute (control-alt-delete).Have a copy of my dmsg file and have attached it... (after I looked up where to find it)Again. It's an Asus Ultrabook S500CA w/ 12G of memory (8+4 G - limitation of hardware/motherboard?). Hello Everyone,
I had just installed edubuntu 14.04 on my lappy(hp pavilion g6 2226 tu). The matter is that whenever i coect to my wifi router, it works for 4-5 seconds and then it stops working. I mean to say Ubuntu is showing coected with wifi but when i checked on router, it was not showing there , also,obviously, i caot access the inteet. .af
There is one more issue. Whenever i start lappy after shutting down, it start blinking rapidly. After this when i power t off and restart, it works correctly. i know it's not hardware issue as i tried it on my lappy before i installed it. Please help
P.S: I am new to ubuntu.

OK i will try to give as much info as i can so this be alittle long so try and stick with me. OK i have a asus g60vx as stated and have a Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU P7350 along with the NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 260M with 1GB GDDR3 VRAM. Heres where im at and stuck at, i have reformatted the hard drive and re installed 16.04 two times and get the same stuff showing up, along with not being able to run the driver for the nvidia even though i have downloaded it still dosnt work, i am not able to download anything from ubuntu software center, i am not able to download anything ruing the command lines, and i can not install any updates. I have included some screen shots of my terminal and some other stuff to maybe give you all some idea, my question i am i going to be able to get this to run right or will i need to downgrade my os to say 15 or 14, i do not have the money to buy a new laptop at

Recently, I caught a virus on an old HTPC ruing windows 7. So, I decided to expand my horizons and try Ubuntu 16.04 LTS as I've started to lea some coding recently and thought it could be interesting. So far, it works great for Youtube and most other videos. However, you try to watch Hulu/HBOGo, and it's a no go. It just sits there at a black screen. So I've been hosting my Plex Media Server and 2 Mumble Servers off my Main Windows 10 Gaming rig for a while now. I just recently built a new machine and threw Ubuntu 14 on it.All was working fine.. I got mumble working great on it..plex was working fine. I ****ed up some settings with Phpmumbleadmin and for some reason DHCP wasn't picking up an IP address from the Router on the ubuntu machine only. Wifi was fine, and Desktop was fine.I decided i probably screwed up apache or myphpadmin or something and decided to just reinstall Ubuntu.Woohoo it was working again. Installed Plex, started copying files over from my NAS for the Plex files/database, walked away and came back to the same issue!!When this happens I caot access the Routers Configuration page either it just times out. I have to reboot the Router and it works again for X minutes until it all messes up again..Also, I can no lon

Hello, I am having trouble installing the updated version of SMB4K (version 1.9..65) which is not available on synaptic. I am ruing kubuntu 16.01 1 LTS with plasma 5.5.5. I have managed to unzip the tar file and have navigated to the correct folder using "cd" on terminal, when I follow the instructions on the "readme" file from the program I get error messages in terminal. This is pasted below, if anyone has any idea why I get these error messages I'd appreciate some feedback thanks! I have two Ubuntu Servers.I want to coect the two machines via etheet.I want to be able to view and transfer files between them.I would prefer to do this without setting up SSH because these machines will not need to receive remote coections over the inteet.The machines will coect to the inteet for updates... but it is not necessary for what I'm trying to do.I've viewed https://askubuntu.com/questions/2283...thout-a-router and was able to setup the IPv4 setup and have my machines ping each other, but was not able to coect and transfer files.I was able to setup a basic SSH server and use the Nautilus coect to server facility to successfully do what I want to do. But I'm not very savy with ssh setup and would rather not open myself up to uecessary vulnerabilities associated with insecure ssh servers.Any ideas of how to set this up securely without SSH?Thanks

I have installed Lubuntu 16.04 and can not install my Epson printer L355, basically I tried two ways:1. Downloaded from epson site and installed the package: epson-inkjet-printer-201207w_1.0.0-1lsb3.2_i386.deb. Apparently it installed fine but when opening "Printers" menu although it appears "coected to localhost" there is a message "there are not printers configured yet"2. Using the terminal I have installed "cups-2.2rc1" program. Then tried the browser to go to "http://localhost:613" and the answer was: "can not coect"Two more details: using the terminal installed the LSB package. And it is not a printer issue, in fact I can scan without problem with "Simple Scan"Greetings and thanks

Hi,I thought ubuntu-14.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso can be used by usb UEFI installation, I copied the iso to a usb stick:$ sudo dd if=/tmp/ubuntu-14.04.5-desktop-amd64.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=1MPlugged it into a new Dell 11 3000 laptop, the bios boot option list pointed UEFI (the only option), but it could not detect the usb iso, it went to the Windows 10 straight away, what I could be missing here? The files copied to usb stick seems fine when I checked by mount:/dev/sdc1 on /tmp/usb type iso9660 (rw)$ ls usb$ ls usbautorun.inf EFI pics ubuntuboot install pool wubi.execasper isolinux preseeddists md5sum.txt README.diskdefinesAppreciate any clues.Thank you.Kind regards,- j

Installed Ubuntu last night and have spent the last 10 hours today trying to get my old adapter working, alas I have given up. Does anybody know of a adapter that will just install and work without having to fiddle with anything? This seems to be the closest I have found, but it only mentions 15.10.My last attempt at solving my previous adapter can be found here, if you feel like helping that way.Thanks.

Hi,I have a new dell precision 7510 in the following configuration:Intel® Core™ i7-6820HQ CPU @ 2.70GHz × 8Quadro M2000M/PCIe/SSE264 GB RAMwith Samsung Pro 850 1Tb SSD (M.2 slot is currently empty).The system can be supplied by Dell with ubuntu, but I got it with Win7, took the HDD with Win7 out and put aside to keep and use if I have trouble with the hardware.Ubuntu is freshly installed on SATA Samsung SSD (no dual boot - no other OS).In general, the laptop works. The main issue - touchpad and stick are recognised as ps/2 mouse (as clear from xinput --list). Although some features of the touchpad (i.e. scrolling) does work, but scrolling on the stick does not. Since making a clean install of 16.04.1 just over a week ago, I've had Thunar 1.6.10 (which came with the UbuntuStudio distro) fall over very frequently when I rename a file.
Sometimes it happens on the first file I rename, sometimes on the 3rd or even higher. Once it has fallen over, it happens more frequently during the session. By fall-over, I mean Thunar just vanishes from the screen and has to be restarted. The rename operation was completed each time and no data is lost (so far) so it is just aoying rather than worrying.
I never had this happen in UStudio 14.04 during the two years or so that I was using it. Has anyone else had this happen ?

I thought 14.04 was supported for five years, and it looks like this is trying to force me to upgrade to 16.04 or else not get keel security update. I DO NOT wish to upgrade to 16.04 at this time for a couple of reasons, first I have seen too many reports of people having problems after an upgrade, but more important I am ruing an older version of Kodi and I do NOT want to be forced to upgrade that because it has some bugs I don't want to deal with.I really don't understand what the link above is telling me but it sure looks like Ubuntu is for all intents and purposes abandoning a LTS version after only two years and a few months. I'm trying to upgrade from Kubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 and having a great deal of trouble about it.I became aware that a new version is available via popup notification on the desktop asking me if I want to upgrade to 16.04. I tell it "yes, update." It goes through a series of processes and ultimately gives me an error message saying I don't have enough space in some part of the hard drive, and to empty my trash and clean-out temporary files from old distros with

I'm pretty sure that was the command. Either way, I did everything it asked and then tried again, with the same result. Insufficient space.I tried to bu an iso image of the new distro onto a DVD-R, thinking that it might be simpler to use this method and just wipe-out everything (including the clutter apparently keeping me from having enough disc space to do this the standard way) and just starting from

thanks for the quick reply - using disks, it displays all the partitions but displays the ubuntu partition as unallocated free space and is uneditable.ruing fdisk shows this though:
